Barbie Collector dolls for 2012: Kardashian Barbies, William and Kate

December 16, 2011

I found this list of Barbie Collector dolls for 2012 on my fave doll forum, The Doll Cafe, so I thought I’ll share it with you.

* Twilight Breaking Dawn Edward – February 2012

* Twilight Breaking Dawn Bella Bella – February 2012

* Kardashian Sisters – June 2012

* Hunger Games – Katniss Everdeen – August 2012

* Stephen Burrows – Designer – October 2012

* Nicholas Kirkwood – Designer – October 2012

* BFMC – Walking Suit – March 2012

* BFMC – Party Dress – April 2012

* BFMC – #3 – May 2012

* Bob Mackie – November 2012

* DOTW – India – July 2012

* DOTW – Holland – July 2012

* DOTW – Chile – July 2012

* DOTW – Mexico – July 2012

* Prince William and Kate Middleton – Royal Wedding – April 2012

I already knew about the Twilight dolls and the Prince William and Kate set, but my biggest surprise were the Kardashian sisters dolls. Say WHAT?! We’ll have Kim, Kourtney and Khloe dolls? WHY??? I mean yes, they are pretty, Kim is really beautiful and she’ll make a great doll, but why are they being honored by Mattel? We still don’t have a Madonna Barbie or a Lady Gaga Barbie and now we’ll have a Kim Barbie? What have these girls done to be honored in such a way? Madonna is a HUGe talent, so is Lady Gaga, but the Kardashians have no real talents. None. They just take pretty pics and show us how they give birth to their children. That’s it. Nothing more. So let me as this question again: why are we having THREE Kardashian Barbies? /:)

    Four I guess. There’s already a Kim K Barbie iirc. She’s pretty.. but no I don’t understand it either. Well other than the fact that Mattel can’t just “honor” someone with a doll at will. If Lady Gaga and Madonna don’t want Barbies made in their image, there’s nothing Mattel can do about that. :)

      I never thought about the fact that Madonna or Gaga don’t want to be Barbies… You have a point. And those two were just examples. I’m sure there are out there more worthy actreses o singers cand deserve and want to be Barbie.There already is a Kim K Barbie?

    I totally agree though, there are a lot of interesting people who should be made into dolls, some more famous than others :D (I for one would die for a Natalia Oreiro or Zooey Deschanel Barbies.) It’s a very interesting subject because I wonder how does this go down.. Does Celebrity approach Mattel, or does Mattel approach them? Does Mattel pay for using their likeness, or is the publicity payment enough.. Mysterious :)

    I would soooooooooo love a Nati Barbie. :X In this case I think momager Kris approached Mattel.

    Mattel DECLINED a Madonna Barbie when doing the 80’s Barbie’s Cyndi Lauper etc. because of being afraid of backlash over a Madonna barbie. Yet, they will make a Barbie of Kim K. who only became famous for a homemade porn!

    Mattel better change their stance on Madonna, because she has had so many looks they could sell probably 30 or more different style and hair Madonna dolls.

    Mattel missed out on a goldmine with a Madonna Barbie. She’s no angel, but she’s got far more intelligence and talent in her little finger than all the Kardashian’s combined.

    Madonna will probably not be made into a doll until after she is dead. She’ll have no way to stop it after, and Lady GaGa hates Barbie dolls and cringes at the thought of Mattel trying to replicate her. She simply won’t allow it. She already gets heated when she sees ooak dolls in her image.

      Really? She gets upset when she sees OOAK dolls made to look like her? That’s so sad…

    I think Kim Kardashian would make a gorgeous doll. I hope they make her !

      They announced the dolls will not be made.

    I’m sad they aren’t making the Kardashian sisters. I know that there were alot people who did not want them made. Since they would have been for adult collectors and not children, I don’t understand why Mattel would decide not to make them.
