Barbie I Can Be

Abby Wambach Barbie doll

February 4, 2016

Soccer star Abby Wambach is getting her own Barbie doll. Mattel has unveiled at the MAKERS 2016 conference that they are releasing an Abby Wambach Barbie Doll.

Abby has retired from football this year after 15 years as part of the US women’s national soccer team, is a two time Olympic gold medalist and has been named US Soccer Athlete of the Year six times.

To be perfectly honest, it’s not my type of doll because I’m not into soccer at all, but I’m sure this doll will be a succes.

    Interesting. I wonder if the doll
    Will come with that base? It is a different direction for Barbie – but like u said, not for me. The price tag should be like $20 or less but I have a feeling it will be like $40 or higher. Without the base/ stand, u just have an ordinary doll in a soccer uniform that is produced at low cost and sold at an inflated price ?
    Is it just me or are the Offerings from BC a little ? So far, I haven’t seen anything that is like the collector series they once released . We had historical dolls in beautiful , detailed outfits( Marie Antoinette/ Queen Josephine); glamour/ fantasy ( Medusa/ Galactic Series);
    Designer ( Versace- Caroline Herrera) and of course, diversity ( Dolls of the World- RIP?). I really enjoyed the Haunted Beauty series and the Enchanted Woods or whatever it is called. It just seems like the dolls they are releasing are so random . I wish there would be more coherence/ consistency ?

    I don’t understand why it seems like new Barbies are unveiled everywhere but the BFC. This is my first year there and it seems like a waste of money.

    The photo shows that Abby Wambach Barbie doll has a made-to-move body. I hope Mattel to understand the fact that lots of their potential customers expect more articulated-bodied Barbie dolls – especially “made-to-move bodies with more delicate final trimming”. (Frankly, final trimming of articulated body is somewhat rough.)

    Additionally, I will be very happy if Mattel launches “made-to-move body kits” (without head) for collectors who want to give their Barbie dolls new articulated bodies.
